On 04/17/2009 Bill C-37 restored Canadian citizenship to "Lost Canadians" all over the world. It was automatic and retroactive.

Paul Yuzyk Award recipient chooses St. Vladimir Institute for $20,000 grant

Toronto, November 16, 2009 —John Yaremko, the first recipient of the Paul Yuzyk Award for Multiculturalism, has chosen to donate the award’s $20,000 grant to the St. Vladimir Institute in Toronto, Manitoba’s Selkirk-Interlake MP James Bezan announced today on behalf of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney.

New citizenship study guide to help newcomers and Canadians better understand Canada

Ottawa, November 12, 2009 — A new, more comprehensive study guide for Canadian citizenship was launched today by Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney.

I am currently looking into the process of sponsoring my child as a resident, I guess this is the only option since it seems like my son is excluded from citizenship since he will be second generation born outside Canada.

Big Surprise for US Applicants!!!

Spoke wit CIC on 16 October 2009. Was told that if application was mailed from the US, CIC will return it to "local" Canadian Consulate office to confirm authenticity of documentation. This will add infinate amont of time to process. Agent backed off from "10 Month" processing time. Anyone else have similar feedback?

Second (or Third) Thoughts Regarding Section 3(1)(g) of the Current Act as Amended by C-37

Introduction

Some people born before 1947 to a Canadian parent are still denied citizenship either because their parents were married and the mother was Canadian or the parents were not married and the father was Canadian.

Legitimacy and the Law

In English law, bastardy and legitimacy were defined by the common law. Most provinces and territories in Canada abandoned the common law definition of legitimacy after 1921 and in Canada legitimacy acts were retroactive to the birth of the child. (Quebec never followed English common law: marriage had always conferred legitimacy on a child whose parents married after the birth of the child.)
